Ayurvedic Recipe for Turmeric Tea

Ayurveda has advocated the use of turmeric for centuries for its health boosting properties. Turmeric is both a powerful anti-inflammatory and an antioxidant. There are various ways to add it to your diet including in curries and in tea. A simple Ayurvedic recipe for turmeric tea is:

1 cup whole milk (or you can use soy, oat or coconut milk)

1/2 cup water

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

1/2 inch piece of cinnamon stick

1 clove

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

1/4 tsp coconut oil

1 leaf of star anise

2 black peppercorns

honey - 1 tsp or sweeten to your own taste


1. Put all the ingredients into your saucepan apart from the coconut oils and the honey. Heat on a medium/high heat and bring to a simmer.

2. Stir well and turn down the heat, you want it to continue simmering but not to boil, allowing it to simmer for 5 minutes. If you wish to simmer for a few minutes longer you can - it will increase the intensity of the flavours. Experiment and do what works best for you, how do you prefer the tea to taste.

3. Turn off the heat and strain it into your cup adding the coconut oil and the honey.

4. Enjoy your health boosting golden milk.
